Waiting for National Elections: Regional Elections 2025

The 2025 regional elections in Apulia, Campania, and Veneto highlighted both continuity and transformation within Italian politics. In the South, the center-left reaffirmed its dominance, with decisive victories for Antonio Decaro (PD) in Apulia and Roberto Fico (M5S) in Campania. In the North, the center-right retained control of Veneto, where Alberto Stefani (Lega) succeeded Luca Zaia after his 15-year tenure, ensuring continuity in one of the coalition’s most symbolic regions.

Beyond the electoral outcomes, the vote also exposed strategic recalibrations within the center-right coalition. Lega secured the crucial agreement to lead the Veneto presidency, safeguarding its historic stronghold, while Fratelli d’Italia intensified efforts to expand its footprint across northern Italy, signaling a long-term contest for influence within the governing bloc. These dynamics reveal evolving power balances that are likely to shape national political trajectories in the years to come.
