Hungary’s 2026 Parliamentary Elections

Hungary’s April 2026 parliamentary elections represent the most consequential political test since the consolidation of power by Viktor Orbán in 2010. For the first time in over a decade, the governing Fidesz party faced a credible and structurally competitive challenger in Péter Magyar and his Tisza Party.

J.D. Vance’s last-minute campaigning did not move the needle; Hungary will replace its Government with one that is more friendly to Ukraine and the European Union. The Tisza Party is projected to secure between 130 and 136 seats. In comparison, Fidesz is expected to fall within a range of 55 to 60 seats, placing the opposition within reach of the critical two-thirds threshold (133 seats) required for constitutional changes.
